RobRoy March Into League Cup Final
28 Feb 2015 by Michael McArdle
Despite a nervous display from the team last night, Rob Roy started well and were rewarded after a good delivery into the box was met by the head of McArdle who picked out Cullen at the back post who smashed in a great volley for his first goal of the season. RobRoy then struggled though after their only real patch of Normal passing football, Hughes tucked home a second goal following a good passing move and save from keeper.
Also a Rob Roy 3rd goal was wrongfully ruled out after being over the line. At Halftime RobRoy lucky to be 2-0 infront though their opponents had only threatened on a few occasions.
2nd half started well for RobRoy though they were shocked when again the linesman who ruled out a 3rd goal before halftime gave Riverside a lifeline by allowing a clearly offside goal to stand and at 2-1 the game became a real contest. Riverside then took a grip of the game for a short period and RobRoy struggled to deal with the direct long ball play and couldn’t break down their oppositions 5 at the back. The RobRoy bench was as always full of talent and strength and the introduction of Miller, Ferguson, Hogg, Brodie and the reintroduction of Cairney saw the Rabs take control and duly score a 3rd to clinch a place in the final. A stunning solo run from Miller beating 4 players over 60 yards resulted in a corner which was delivered to the back post for Miller to control and smash home a lobbed strike. A stunning finish to the tie and despite a very average performance Rob Roy stay unbeaten in FVFDA and reach the final.
